Venue Description

Yr Hen Stablau is a renovated 1840s stables, now converted into self-catering for six. The cottage is set in luxuriant gardens on a wooded hillside in the Dyfi Valley, near Machynlleth. We are in the Dyfi Biosphere which means spectacular unspoilt scenery as well as local sustainable economy. This peaceful, secluded and picturesque setting makes Yr Hen Stablau ideal if you want to relax, paint, read or write. It is also an excellent base for a more active holiday in this beautiful corner of Snowdonia. Wheelchair accessible ground floor incl double or twin bedroom, roll-in shower, mobile hoist. Underfloor heating (included), woodstove. 3 bedrooms, sleeps 6. Pets welcome, parking, shops 1 m, coast 8 m. We are "Good to Go" with COVID-19 precautions all in place. Full information on extra hygiene and local COVID regulations is given to visitors before and during their stay.

Accessibility

The drive up to Yr Hen Stablau leads to a flat slate paved entrance to the covered porch, also with level slate slab floor, and then into the lobby. The whole of the ground floor of Yr Hen Stablau is wheelchair accessible, and the doors are all 900mm wide or wider. All doors open 90° back or further and all rooms are laid out to have clear wheelchair entrance, as tested by the many wheelchair visitors since we opened in 2006. All doors to the outside have low kleertred sills for easy wheeling. On the ground floor are a double or twin bedroom, shower room and toilet, sitting room, kitchen/ dining room, hall and access to the terraces front and back. There is a mobile hoist available on request, ramp for the toilet, risers for beds and chairs, and an armchair commode, all free of charge. The shower room has roll-in shower, WC, grab rails, lever taps, shower stool and plastic chairs. All door handles are disability friendly, the basins and kitchen sink have lever taps, and the colour scheme is planned for good visibility of doors, windows, handles, floors, worktops and cupboards. The cottage is light with plenty of windows, skylights and lights inside and out. There is a radio, CD player, DVD and satellite digital TV with Freeview, free Wifi. We can arrange free transport on arrival from the railway and bus stations in Machynlleth and also help carrying luggage on request.

The toilet has step free access and the doorway is wide enough for a wheelchair. The toilet/shower room has grab rails and lever taps. A ramp for the toilet is available if needed.
