The museum is in central York. Many park and ride bus services stop nearby, the closest being the number 6 and number 8. The train station is around 5 minutes away by taxi. There are many buses from the station until the city centre near the museum.

The museum has no parking. Opposite the museum is Castle council car park which has blue badge parking spaces.
