Water of Leith Visitor Centre
24 Lanark Road, Edinburgh, EH14 1TQ, United Kingdom | 01314557367 | WebsiteVenue Description
The Water of Leith Conservation Trust (a registered charity, no. SC000015) works to improve and protect the Water of Leith river in Edinburgh, its heritage and wildlife: the Trust promotes education and recreation through the Visitor Centre and works with volunteers and community groups to deliver around 250 river clean-ups and habitat improvement tasks annually. The Water of Leith Visitor Centre is situated in a renovated schoolhouse by the Water of Leith. It combines a free exhibition together with a community cafe selling teas, coffees, freshly bakes goods and snacks. There’s also a gift shop selling eco friendly and wildlife themes books and gifts. The Centre is accessible to wheelchairs throughout and caters well for families with young children. The centre serves as a base for our volunteer conservation activities and includes rooms available to hire for events and birthday parties.
Accessibility
The entrances and fire exits around the centre are all level access from the walkway / car park outside and wide enough for a wheelchair. The public areas of the Centre are all on one level and fully accessible throughout / doors are wide enough. We have a disabled toilet which also has a shower area and a child's fold down changing area, though we do not have an adult changing table or a hoist.
Toilets
There is a disabled toilet in the venue. It has a raised toilet seat, a grab rail and easy turn taps in the sink. It is on a level access to the corridor and the door is wide enough for wheelchairs. There is a shower area in the bathroom, though this is not level access.
