Warrington Museum and Art Gallery

Bold Street, Warrington, WA1 1JG, United Kingdom | 01925442399 | Website

Venue Description

Warrington Museum and Art Gallery was one of the first municipal museums to open in the country back in 1848. Our eleven galleries have kept their Victorian character and are full of an extremely eclectic mix of objects, from dinosaur fossils to shrunken heads, from Roman pottery to taxidermy. Our art galleries include large paintings and sculpture by Victorian artists as well as contemporary art from local and international artists. We have a changing program of events with temporary exhibitions, talks, live music, and free family-friendly arts and crafts sessions. We are often described as a "cabinet of curiosities" due to the rich and varied nature of our exhibits. We are, above all, a very friendly and welcoming place to visit.

Accessibility

Our entrance on Bold street has an automatic door operated on a push button which enters in to a small foyer where the passenger lift is situated, the Museum is on the 1st and 2nd floors of the building (with a library on the Ground floor). We have six galleries on the 1st floor and four galleries on the 2nd floor. There is another gallery which is situated in between the two floors and is accessed via the main stairway - there is a platform lift from the 2nd floor down to this gallery. The walk ways are wide enough for wheelchair access throughout.
