Overview

Treadwell's is an esoteric bookshop, which sells new and rare books and ritual supplies. It also hosts tarot readings and other events, some of which since the pandemic have gone online. This is a small, welcoming bookshop with friendly and knowledgeable staff. It has its own unique ambiance and is a very special space. The main bookshop floor is very accessible.

The nearest accessible, step-free station is Tottenham Court Road. There are several buses that stop very close by.

Access

There is a metal ramp at the front door which provides step-free access into the shop. The front door is manual opening. The walls of the shop have tall bookcases and there are a couple of small tables in the centre. I found it spacious enough to be able to easily move around with my crutch. The counter is at desk height so accessible to wheelchair users. There is a chair to sit on. There is a lower floor where the events and tarot readings are held. This is only accessible by steps. Sorry I forgot to take a photograph of the steps but they have a handrail.

Staff

The staff are really helpful and friendly. If you are unable to reach a book they will get it for you. It's the kind of place if you want to be left alone to browse they will let you. However, they will offer help and thoughtful suggestions if you want that. I had a few questions when I went in and I was served by Christina, the shop's owner. She made some helpful suggestions to me and then left me to look through the books and check it they were what I was after. We also had a more general chat. I didn't feel rushed or pressurised, I was able to take my time and I was really delighted with my purchases.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Treadwell's felt very safe. There is hand sanitiser at the door and a sign asking you to wear a mask. There were a few other people in the shop but it is spacious enough to maintain social distancing. Treadwell's is very special, it's a traditional, independent bookshop which is staffed by people who are knowledgeable and enabling. It's comfortable, relaxed and very welcoming. I'd recommend a visit. Thank you and I look forward to returning.
