Venue Description

The Yard is a purpose built indoor and outdoor adventure playground for children and young people with disabilities. The Yard is a safe environment where children and young people can experience play without feeling different. We run family, school and club sessions in the heart of Edinburgh. We have also expanded our service to Dundee operating on Sundays, soon to be opening a Yard in Kirkcaldy. Visiting The Yard is a unique and dynamic adventure experienced every year by more than 2000 children and young people with disabilities. Our doors open daily throughout the year to schools, families, disabled children and young people, their siblings and friends. In the delivery of all our services we think creatively and carefully and use materials and junk that others would cast aside. Our team stand back and reflect as much as they step in to encourage and facilitate inclusive play. This consistent practice has allowed The Yard to build a library of experience that we willingly share

Accessibility

Entrance is completely wheelchair friendly. We have multiple entrances to The Yard including a coded gate facing George V Park. Doors are specially fitted and accommodating to large sizes within the facility. There is not a second level, The Yard is completely based on the ground. The Yard outside provides various terrain at different gradients, however easily explored via wheelchair. Access to The Yard is made possibly via our own private car park making for easy drop off/pick up.
