Overview
The McManus was somewhere I'd read about but not visited. It turned out to be a great find with lots to see, good access, parking and coffee!
Transport & Parking
You can't fault the parking with a couple of good sized accessible parking bays to the rear / side of the building. If you're visiting by bus there seemed to be lots of buses buzzing by. It's also a short walk from the City Square. If coming by train it is about a twenty minute walk.
Access
Getting in the building was easy with large doors with level thresholds. Once inside we were greeted by reception staff who offered us a map of the building and explained what was where. A central lift takes you to the various floors. It does get busy but once in it is very spacious. The galleries were easy to move around and it was easy to see the many exhibits from wheelchair height. We took time out in the cafe and this was very good with moveable furniture and plenty of space.
Toilets
The accessible loo is located on the lower floor and is adjacent to the standard toilets. It has lots of space, grab rails and a changing bench but doesn't have a hoist.
Staff
All the staff we met were friendly and very helpful. Special mention must go to the reception staff who welcomed us and offered a map and explained the layout of the museum. We also want to highlight the fabulous service we received in the cafe. Nothing was too much trouble - we had a great lunch too!
Anything else you wish to tell us?
A great place to visit and simply browse through the many exhibits and sometimes surprising finds - even comic book characters!
