Overview
Audio described tour for visually impaired Having participated previously in a similar event albeit different artworks it was useful to have some sense of the location, gallery and format of the session. The gallery staff and volunteer guides are sensitive to accessibility needs regarding vision/ mobility around the venue and gallery, not intrusive , which makes a comfortable environment. The team are sensible to pick only several artworks to study/ describe/explain objectively. They are knowledgeable about painting and printmaking techniques from personal experience which added to the richness of works described; these varied. Some lengthy discussion evolved around one painting in particular as to any underlying meaning in addition to its literal image. The act of describing seemed to make the group, sighted or not, think or ‘look’ in a more substantive way. Very enjoyable and stimulating morning I think, for all parties. Thank you.
