Overview
This museum has by the Harbour in Whitehaven is a great place to visit and learn about the local area. The staff are friendly and there is a shop and restaurant with accessible toilets and a lift to all floors. I am a wheelchair user and find it easy to manoeuvre around the building. The accessible toilets all have the alarm cords reaching to the floor - not always the case with other places I visit. There is free disabled parking available. The exhibits are interactive and interesting. The staff are extremely helpful and nothing is too much trouble especially in the Wellington Cage, which serves snacks as well as cooked meals. There is also a new "portal" building which provides accessible meeting rooms for hire, my only criticism is that there needs to be additional disabled parking for the Portal. The adjacent harbour has a level walk around it and work is underway to make the old quay as near to fully wheelchair accessible as possible within the constraints of the age of the structure. Well worth a visit
