Swindon & Cricklade Railway
Tadpole Lane, Swindon, SN25 2DA, United Kingdom | 01793 771615 | WebsiteVenue Description
The S&CR is a Heritage Steam and Diesel Railway in Wiltshire. It is entirely built, run and managed by volunteers. We are open most weekends throughout the year and offer a round-trip passenger journey of approximately four and a half miles. Trains run between Hayes Knoll and Taw Valley Halt. The main visitor centre is at Blunsdon Station in Tadpole Lane and has a large car park. Blunsdon also offers indoor and outdoor dining and refreshments, plus souvenir shop and toilets etc.Accessibility
We do our best to provide access for wheelchairs. The car park is constructed from compacted gravel and the main circulating areas are all flat ground. We have wheelchair accessible toilets at Blunsdon and Hayes Knoll. There are ramps to station platforms, cafe, shop etc. We operate a fleet of mainly pre-1960’s heritage railway carriages with narrow corridors. Our standard set of coaches normally includes our specially adapted coach, 'Laura', which has double doors and space for wheelchair users. Please note: when 'Laura' is not available or when the train service is to be operated by diesel multiple units (DMU’s), we can only accommodate wheelchairs in the guards van area of the train. Visibility through the windows may be restricted in these areas, but the DMU does have seating in the guard's area for people accompanying a wheelchair. Access is achieved via double doors and a ramp - please ask the Guard for assistance. Because mobility scooters come in many styles, weights and sizes, we are unable to guarantee access for all models.

Accessible Performances
Depending on volunteer availability, we can sometimes arrange private visits for groups of school-age children with special needs. At Christmas we can also offer ramp access and special priority for children or young adults wishing to see Santa in his grotto. For more details and to discuss your requirements please email schools@swindon-cricklade-railway.org
Toilets
We have a purpose built and separate disabled toilet at Blunsdon. It is step-free and has a wide-access door. It also has a grab rail and easy turn taps and is large enough to take a wheel chair. Our restoration shed at Hayes Knoll also has a similarly equipped disabled toilet but is accessed via a ramp down to the shed where it is located just inside the shed entrance. It is large enough to accommodate a wheelchair.
