Overview

The National Park Centre is at the top of Sutton Bank. They have a scooter which is free to hireand a leaflet detailing a 5 mile all abilities walk consisting of two loops. We took the southern loop and enjoyed views right acrossthe Vale of York and Eastwards to the Pennines. The track passes the glider air field and it was fascinating to watch them taking off over our heads. Back at the Centre there is lots of information about the area, and the adjacent cafe is fully accessible.

Transport & Parking

5

Ample number of disabled parking spaces, mostly unused on the Bank Holiday Monday when we visited.

Access

5

Automatic doors into National Park Centre .

Toilets

5

In the courtyard adjacent to other toilets. Assessed by radar key, obtainable from the Centre. Roomy enough to easily accommodate a carer and or a wheelchair or scooter, and well equipped with grab rails etc.

Staff

They were cheerful, friendly and could not have been more helpful. We were able to book the scooter in advance, and it was ready for us when we returned a couple of days later. Scooter hire is free and although the present scooter is robust enough to cope with the trail conditions there Are plans to acquire a Tramper , which will be even better.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

We did one loop of the 5 mile trail. We plan to return to do the Northern loop, with ‘the best view in England’

Great review thanks Jeannie, I don't live too far from here and it's a great place to visit. Must do a review sometime here as well. :) I'm abled bodied but with a stick most of the time and the paths are mostly flat. Just be careful on a windy day as my step dad nearly lost his hat and his hearing aid!!
