Overview
This was a fantastic day out with the Euan’s Guide team. Overall Stirling was very accessible I did struggle with a few of the sloping streets and the cobblestones on the way up to and around the castle. The castle is definitely worth a visit despite this obstacle. Just make sure you have some help to move around.
Transport & Parking
We walked to the to the castle from the train station in the centre of the town. The cobblestones at times did make the journey difficult. I would recommend taking regular breaks if you can and also take some extra help with you to help you enjoy the day.
Access
There are guided tours available of the castle which sounded very interesting. If you prefer to wander round in your own time there is also plenty to see and do for all the family. There are interactive exhibits for children and a dressing up area with I really enjoyed as a ‘big’ kid too!
Toilets
There are accessible toilets with handrails available near the entrance to the castle
Staff
Staff are very friendly and helpful
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The battlements are in a paved area which is a welcome rest from the cobblestones. There is also a ramp down to the castle cafe. I would ask Stirling Council to perhaps try to adapt the popular tourist train allow disabled visitors a more comfortable way to navigate up to the castle for what was otherwise a great day out with friends.
