Venue Description

St Mary's Guildhall, located in the city's historic Cathedral Quarter, astonishingly escaped bombing raids during the Second World War. As one of the only remaining medieval buildings, it still stands as a testament to medieval Coventry's power and wealth. The Guildhall is home to the magnificent Coventry Tapestry, which along with its spectacular interiors, provides a glimpse into the city's fascinating history.

Accessibility

There is step free and level access to most rooms in St Mary's Guildhall. A new stair lift has been put into the medieval kitchen to allow access to the Muniment Room, where the welcome video plays. This is also captioned. There is also a lift from the kitchen to the Great Hall, and a ramp added to the entrance of the Old Council Chamber. There has been a new spiral staircase added to the Great Hall, to allow easier access to the Armoury, however there is no step free access to these rooms. We do provide digital tours which include a captioned guided tour and a 360 degree photograph tour of every room, allowing people to interact with the interpretation of the rooms without needing to access them. We also have a hearing loop installed at reception. There is an accessible toilet at reception, with fully level access. There is also a lift down into Tales of Tea, the cafe in the undercroft of the Guildhall. There is seating available around the site. When performances are put on, we work with the performer to offer accessible performances where possible.
