Venue Description
For nearly 500 years, the bishops of Moray relaxed in this majestic building a short distance from their cathedral at Elgin. It even had its own bowling green and, according to on account, a tennis court. Today, you can climb David's Tower, where bishops once entertained kings an queens. The views over Moray are well worth the ascent. Look out for the wildlife - barn owls nest here. 29 Mar to 30 Sept: Daily except Mon & Tue, 10am to 4.30pm (last entry 4pm). Approach to site Approach to site is 40m along a gravel path with a slight upward incline. Visitor Centre The shop has level access with no thresholds or steps. Monument The routes around the monument are surfaced with gravel or cut grass. At ground level are the kitchen, north, south and west range. The ground is uneven and there are protruding archaeological remains. The basement of David’s tower is reached down uneven stone steps. It can be very dark. The upper levels are reached up historic stone spiral stairs.
