Skylarks Nature Reserve
Adbolton Lane, Nottingham, NG12 2LU, United Kingdom | 0115 958 8242 | WebsiteVenue Description
Skylarks Nature Reserve is an attractive wetland nature reserve owned by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust. We created this green space back in 1982, specifically designing it so that wheelchair users can easily access the site - this was the first accessible nature reserve in the UK! In 2014 we successfully purchased a further 36ha of land and water to the south of Adbolton Lane, creating the largest nature reserve in Rushcliffe. Skylarks was once a commercial gravel pit, and has been carefully managed so that now the holes left by extraction are a valuable wetland habitat for a variety of wildlife. Additionally there are areas of grassland, scrub and woodland, providing shelter for a wide variety of birds, mammals, insects and plants.
Accessibility
Skylarks Nature Reserve has 1.5km of well surfaced paths suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, however they can still get muddy on occasion and there are plenty of other unsurfaced paths, so it is advisable to wear warm, waterproof shoes. Warm, waterproof clothing is also sensible, so as not to get caught out in a shower. If it is a sunny day, don’t forget to bring a hat, suncream and a bottle of water.
Toilets
There are cafés and toilets at Holme Pierrepont Country Park – a short walk or drive away. This can either be accessed along Adbolton Lane, or by walking through the part of the reserve to the north of Adbolton Lane, into the Country Park and walking west along the lake edge.
Staff
