Scotland Street School Museum, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh between 1903-1906 for the School Board of Glasgow is now a museum & tells the story of 100 years of education in Scotland, from the late 19th century to the late 20th century. The building is a must see for Mackintosh fans, as a fantastic example of his architectural style. In telling the story of education during this time, Scotland Street School Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. We welcome all visitors however specific provision will be made for visitors with disabilities in terms of physical access and gallery development.

Accessibility

• The main entrance doors open automatically. • The doors are double width. • There is a ramp or slope to access this service located directly in front of entrance. • The automatic doors are push pad operated. • The reception desk is 4m (13ft 1in) from the main entrance. • There is level access to reception from the entrance. • The reception desk is high height. • The desk has a lowered section. • Lighting levels are bright. • There is a hearing assistance system (portable loop) • Motorised scooters are allowed in public parts of the venue. • Lighting levels are varied. • The ramp or slope is located on the right as you face reception. • There is a level landing at the top of the ramp. • There is a lift for public use. • The controls for the lift are within reach for a wheelchair user and include an emergency alarm button. • The lift controls do have Braille and tactile markings.

• The door opens outwards, is heavy & locks by a sliding bolt. • Floor manoeuvring space is clear, with lateral transfer space. • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side. • There is an emergency alarm available. • Wall mounted rails are available. • The height of the toilet seat is 44cm (1ft 5in). • The hand dryer is not placed higher than 100cm (3ft 3in). • The toilet roll holder can be reached from seated on the toilet. • The sink is not placed higher than 74cm (2ft 5in). • Contrast between internal & external door and wall & floor is good.

Staff

Disability awareness is embedded within our training programme for every employee.
