Venue Description

Scampston Walled Garden is a contemporary garden nestled in the grounds of the Regency-style stately home. The Walled Garden is a striking example of naturalistic perennial planting, and has gained repute as a plantsman's paradise. For those who prefer more traditional gardens, there are also the Hall gardens and 'Capability' Brown parkland to explore. Both the Walled Garden & Parkland are open to visitors from Easter though to October each year. The Hall is open for guided tours from the end of May until the end of July. With decadent regency interiors and an impressive collection of art and antiques, the Hall tours are both lively and informative. A Garden Cafe serves delicious light lunches and home-made cream teas. The small plant nursery specialises in the unusual plants you'll find in the gardens. There is also an excellent shop selling good quality gifts.

Accessibility

The Walled Garden has step free access and is flat and paved throughout. Seating is placed throughout the garden. A mobility scooter and manual wheelchair are also available to borrow. Pre-booking is advised. The Garden Cafe has step-free access, and doors are wide enough for scooters or wheelchairs. There are also disabled toilet facilities at the entrance to the Cafe. For those wishing to do a Hall tour, there is a wheelchair ramp for the entrance, and step free access on the ground floor. For those unable to use stairs, the first floor of the Hall tour is not accessible, however this only makes up a very small section of the tour, the majority of it taking place at ground level. Some areas of the Parkland and Hall gardens can be accessed, though visitors are warned that the ground is less even, and the full cascade circuit route is just under a mile.
