Venue Description
Built upon the former Ryhope Pumping Station, the giant 1868 steam powered beam engines are regularly steamed using power from hand fired Lancashire boilers of 1908. We have a blacksmith on site holding regular exhibitions during steaming events. Please bring your tablet or smartphone with a full charge to enjoy our Info-Point guided tours, historical information, plans, images and videos. A series of web-cams enable full viewing of the most inaccessible areas however a Terry platform lift will afford access to a huge part of the museum.
Accessibility
We have a newly installed Terry platform lift to enable wheelchair users to remain in their wheelchairs during the transfer. Level access with a very slight ramped thresh accessible by independent wheelchair users.
