Only 30 minutes from Glasgow city centre by car or train, this wetland reserve is an ideal spot to get away from it all and enjoy some amazing wildlife with the family. As one of the few wetlands left in the west of Scotland, Lochwinnoch is the perfect place to watch whooper swans, lapwing and a wide variety of ducks during winter months. In spring you won't want to miss the elaborate displays of the great crested grebes.Accessibility
Access to facilities Visitor centre • Ground floor accessible by three entrances. • Option of steps or ramps. • Manual outward opening doors. • Low counter used for membership information. • Wheelchair available on request. • Level throughout with space to manoeuvre. • Good lighting. • Flooring is linoleum. • Clear print information. • Some goods may be difficult to reach. • Staff available to assist. Car parking 30 spaces, (of which 4 spaces are dedicated for shop customers) 3 Blue Badge spaces • Spaces 20m from the visitor centre. • Gravel with uneven surface due to frequently developing potholes. Toilet and baby changing One accessible toilet, 10m from the visitor centre entrance. Nature trails access • Three partly-signposted trails (two 400m trails + one 1.5km trail), all flat with no significant inclines. • Access to the main trail is through a gate This gate is suitable for most wheelchair users to open. • All prone to flooding after heavy rain. • Main trail (1.5km long) is an all-access trail. Viewing points • There is generally level access with wheelchair spaces, except the Tower Observation Area which is upstairs in the visitor centre. • There is no lift access and entry to the tower can only be made by walking up 23 steps. • Two hides, both with seating, and two viewing screens, with seating at one. Picnic area • 4 picnic benches, 2 of which are adapted to be useable by a single wheelchair each. Dogs • Registered Assistance Dogs welcome. • Dogs are allowed on all footpaths. • Well behaved dogs are welcome within the visitor centre excluding the shop area. • All dogs to be kept on a lead.
