Venue Description

As Britain’s oldest conservatoire, we are inspired by the past but committed to shaping contemporary musical life with discernment and open-mindedness. We welcome everyone to experience the special liveliness of the Academy by attending our many concerts, masterclass and talks featuring world-class artists. Our free Museum is full of remarkable instruments and our famous collections.

Accessibility

There are six steps to the main entrance, with handrails. Alternative step-free access to reception and the Duke’s Hall concert venue is via the ramped side entrance of the York Gate building. This is approximately 30 metres to the left of the Academy’s main entrance. York Gate is wheelchair accessible to all floors. The museum’s three floors are all accessible via the lift. Most of our performance spaces have semi-flexible seating arrangements, and suitable spaces for wheelchair users. Please note that advance notice is very helpful. At advance request we have some induction loops available.

Toilets

Accessible WCs are located in the basement of the Main building and on floors 1 and 2 of the Museum in York Gate.

Staff

In the event of an evacuation fire marshals are trained to check the refuge points and take appropriate action as necessary to ensure that people are evacuated safely from the building.

Guide and companion dogs are welcome at the Academy. Please let us know when you are booking tickets so that we can offer appropriate seating where your dog can remain with you during the performance.
