Venue Description

At Quarry Bank you can discover a complete cotton mill industrial community and experience the very different worlds of owner and worker, who lived and worked here side by side. Experience heritage machinery in action and feel the floors shake beneath your feet as the spinning machines turn and the looms weave. Find out about the life and legacy of Samuel Greg, the founder of Quarry Bank. We want to make sure that Quarry Bank is equally accessible for all visitors. The historic buildings and landscape that we care for present challenges in creating access for all, but we have taken steps to ensure that as many people as possible are able to experience Quarry Bank’s story.

Accessibility

As a charitable organisation we have taken steps to ensure that as many people as possible are able to experience Quarry Bank’s story. The enhanced facilities include: - Place to Change toilet facility - including overhead hoist, changing bench, peninsular toilet, dropdown rails, vertical rails - Braille guide version of the Story Map - Large print version of the Story Map - Tactile maps of every floor in the Mill - Virtual tour of the Apprentice House upper floor - Virtual tour of the Worker’s Cottage - These are on tablets at the venue, they include the exact tour that the visitors would receive should they go upstairs, and also a fly through of the space. So no visitors miss out on any part of the tour. - A new access map which shows terrain, gradients, path surfaces etc available from Visitor Reception. - A large scale ‘map4all’ tactile map was installed near Visitor Reception. - At key venues, we have tactile ‘easy read’ and braille signs that use pictorial symbols developed with the Seashell Trust. - A brand-new Beamer mark 2 Tramper. - Induction loops installed on all tills and in the Alex suite. - A detailed article on the Quarry Bank website dedicated to access. That includes photographs and accessible descriptions of all venues on the property. - A braille version of an indenture in the Workforce Gallery of the Mill. - A Braille version of an extract of Hannah’s diary in Quarry Bank House. - The service counter in the upper garden café was lowered to make it accessible.

Toilets

A Place to Change toilet facility including a changing bench and hoist can be found in the Mill Yard. An accessible toilet can be found in the Upper Garden behind the café.
