Potteric Carr Nature Reserve
Mallard Way, Doncaster, DN4 8DB, United Kingdom | 01302 570077 | WebsiteVenue Description
Potteric Carr is a wild oasis just waiting to be explored. Now nestling between motorway and railway, it's a remnant of the vast fenland that once stretched all the way across the Humber basin to the coast. Famed for its wetland birds including bitterns and marsh harriers, over 230 species of birds have been recorded on the reserve and 102 species have bred, with over 65 species breeding each year. However, the reserve is also home to a huge range of other wildlife. Great crested and palmate newts are present in some of the pools and toads are common. Mammals include water shrew, water vole, harvest mouse and roe deer. The nature reserve is excellent for insects and other invertebrates too, with impressive lists of moths, spiders, beetles, bugs and hoverflies. Please note that Potteric Carr is Yorkshire Wildlife Trust's only paid-entry reserve.Accessibility
You’ll find an accessible route signposted on this spectacular wetland reserve. Most hides are accessible, giving excellent views of the lakes. There’s a café and accessible toilets in our visitor centre, as well as disabled parking, and a Tramper Mobility Scooter available for a half or full day hire.
