Overview
The museum has several levels and there are lifts to take people between floors. A visitor map is available and shows the key points as well as accessibility information.
Transport & Parking
It is possible to pre book parking prior to your visit. Low floor buses run along the adjacent road.
Access
Disabled access is very good once you are in the building. The Stanhope entrance that I used is approached by a gravel driveway that may be difficult for some wheelchair users. Once in the building it's best to get a copy of the map to find your way around. Signposting is good but sometimes the lifts are not as obvious. There's plenty of space to see the exhibits and the information easy to read from wheelchair height.
Toilets
The accessible toilet I visited was modern, very spacious, well equipped and clean.
Staff
Staff were helpful in some areas but unfortunately not so in others. In an area where a lift was out of service the nearby staff did not come forward to offer help to suggest an alternative route despite it being fairly obvious I wanted to use the lift. A sign giving information about the alternative lifts would have been helpful.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
There's a very good cafe in the Neptune Court, by the big map that's on the floor. Helpful staff.
