Overview

This is a magnificent late Victorian Gothic revival style house. The fact that some of the rooms weren't fully completed until post WW1 makes it more intriguing. You also get a variety of interior styles as well as some items have been relocated from their Luton Park House in Bedfordshire including work by Robert Adam. The gardens are also worth seeing including the glasshouse which was originally built for the Glasgow Garden Festival in 1988.

Transport & Parking

There are a number of parking spaces reserved for disabled. Also if you have a blue badge you can drive upto the house or use the shuttle bus. although this doesn't take wheelchairs.

Access

I use a basic power chair to move about but as long as you long as you stick to the paths (the grass verges are also usable giving better traction) and driveways you The house don't like people using electric chairs as they can damage the carpets; however as long as you can transfer they provide manual chairs. (The lift is very small so anything bigger would be difficult anyway). Unfortunately nothing is at entry level so using the lift is the only way to see the house but after that you can go anywhere that everybody else can go.

Toilets

I didn't use this.

Staff

The staff are all very friendly and as well talking to you about the rooms or history they are all willing to help with any mobility issues, they have to control the lift but they were falling over themselves to help.
