Venue Description

The museum at Meigle displays 26 Pictish carved stones dating from the late 8th to the late 10th centuries. Making up one of the most important collections of early medieval sculpture in Western Europe, they are all that survives of a centre of Pictish wealth and patronage. 31 Mar to 30 Sept: Sun to Wed, 10am to 4.30pm (last entry 4pm) Closed for lunch 12.30pm to 1pm (last entry at 12 noon) 1 Oct to 30 Mar: Closed

Accessibility

Approach to site The site is approached along a fine gravel path 10m long. There is a set of five concrete stairs with a handrail. An alternate route is to carry on along the pavement and up a steep slope and come through the cemetery over unlevel grass. Though there are still two steps. Please phone on 01828 640 612 before attempting this. Visitor Centre The museum has a raised threshold and then is on the level. There are narrow sections between displays.
