Overview

I visited as a support staff with a large group of adults with learning disabilities. Firstly last year with the introduction of their new q-jump system. This was not acesible for people with LD though Unlike other Merlin venues who issues wrist bands. We were issued with a system that you have to have a wifi enabled smart device. Part of our group trips are hoping to empower people to take those trips independently. From this visit it was clear, this would be difficult for our group as most do not have smart devices or know how to use them. Using them though is not that stragihtforward. And they don't actually allow you to pass the queue, but rather sets a timer until you can go there. But you can only book for one ride at a time, so actually there is still a large element of 'queuing' or waiting around. Which was a struggle for our group, with several peopel becoming frustrated. We reported to staff but they did not listen. Second visit - we were told that our group was not 'disabilty enough' That 'learning disability' no longer counts for this service and told by staff "we no longer accept learning disability, someone has to have something like Downs syndrome or Autism" Was absolutely disgusting way to treat our group, who were extremely offended and well just confused by the situation. Will not be visiting again.
