Venue Description

Possibly built or adapted by the invading English King Edward I, the great castle of Kildrummy was the stronghold of Earls of Mar. Although ruined, it remains a good example of a 13th century castle with many fine features. Opening times: 29 Mar to 30 Sept: Mon to Fri, 10am to 4.30pm (last entry 4pm). Closed for lunch 12 noon to 1pm. 1 Oct to 28 Mar: Closed We recommend booking online to guarantee entry.

Accessibility

Approach to site The visitor approach to site is 800m from the visitor centre up a gently sloping gravel path. Visitor Centre The visitor centre has step-free access. Monument The castle is at ground level, but there are stone thresholds and obstacles. The courtyard is surfaced in cobbles and cut grass. Most rooms (gatehouse, great hall, chapel, bakehouse etc) are surfaced with deep gravel.
