Venue Description

The luxurious self catering holiday cottages offer accommodation in the village of Rainow. They are located in the grounds of Kerridge End House, a former Gentleman’s residence built in 1837 for John Mellor. Kerridge End is in the conservation area of the village, which lies in the foothills of the Pennines, straddling the Cheshire boundary of the Peak District National Park.

 

The Hayloft is an immaculate conversion of the first floor of a Grade II listed barn which sleeps up to six people. The unique features of this unusual building have been carefully preserved to retain charming exposed beams, distinctive circular windows and every room has its own unique character. With the exception of one bedroom the main living areas of The Hayloft are all on one level.

 

The Stables is an enchanting conversion of a ground floor Grade II listed stables.

This romantic luxuriously appointed one bedroom ground floor apartment sleeps two people. The distinctive half round windows which were a prominent feature of the building have been preserved. The Stables is all on one level for easy access.

 

The Coach House comprises of a beautiful and luxurious conversion of the old coach house: that has maintained the original features of the oak beams, Yorkshire sash windows and coach entrance. All the rooms have been individually styled to give a light and airy feeling.

 

We have two cottages, The Hayloft and The Stables, which are essentially on one floor with doors 840mm or wider.  All power points in these cottages are a minimum of 250mm from the floor and light switches are approximately 1200mm from the floor.  The Hayloft is equipped with a wet room, which caters for guests with wheelchairs or balance aids.  Toilet seat raisers, shower stools and grab rails are provided.  Carver dining chairs are provided in all three cottages to assist guests with mobility issues following a suggestion received from one of our earlier guests.  Bed blocks are available on request.

 

To aid the visually impaired, door surrounds contrast with the walls and doors, kitchen worktops contrast with the walls and cupboards.  Coloured glassware and coloured china is provided.  Colour has been introduced into the bathrooms and shower rooms décor and towels.  The bedrooms have coloured linen.  Touch sensitive lamps are provided in two bedrooms in The Hayloft and are available for use in other bedrooms.  Extra reading lamps are available.  A magnifying glass and swan neck lighting facility is available.  A jumbo alarm clock can be provided.  Assistance Dogs are welcome and can be exercised in our secure adjacent field.

 

For guests with hearing impairments we have a jumbo alarm clock with shaker and televisions have text facilities.

 

We cater for guests with allergies by providing feather free pillows and duvets, and making a de-ioniser and de-humidifier available.  All linen and towels are laundered on site using eco non biological products.

Accessibility

The Hayloft which sleeps 6 has a ramp access which complies with the NAS (M3a requirements), with hand rail. All doors are 840mm wide and fully accessible for wheelchairs. The Stables which sleeps two, if required guests can park outside front door and the entrance is essentially level. All doors are a minimum of 840mm wide

Toilets

The Hayloft has a wheelchair accessible wet-room room with good turning space. The wet-room is large enough to accommodate the user and up to two carers. Grab rails are located adjacent to the shower, wash basin and toilet. There is easy access to the wash basin and towels, the wash basin has easy turn taps. We have an adjustable height shower stool and there is also a shower wheelchair available Shower gel/soap dispensers at accessible height The shower controls can be reached when seated There is space for right transfer to toilet with grab rail Toilet Seat Raiser is available on request The Stables has a wheelchair accessible toilet and a toilet seat raiser is available upon request.

Staff

Ivor Williams – joint owner was chair of Macclesfield Disability Information Bureau for ten years. We as owners have attended the following courses: Welcome All The Accessible Visitor Journey Accommodation-Unlimited Access We also joined the “Cheshire Tourism For All” forum and attended a major North West conference entitled “Leading the Way to an Accessible UK” We attended Access Exchange Conference 2017 in Chesterfield.
