Venue Description
John Lewis Welwyn is a branch of the JL Partnership department stores. The first John Lewis store was opened in 1864 in Oxford Street, London. The chain's slogan is "Never Knowingly Undersold" which has been in use since 1925. There are 45 stores throughout England, Scotland and Wales. John Lewis Welwyn opened in July 1984, however the building dates from 1939 when it opened as Welwyn Department Sores. Due to the age of the building there are 'rooms' within the store at various levels. Access to the different floor levels are with steps and mini lifts. There are five mini lifts within the store and one central lift.
Accessibility
We have several entrances to the branch. Entry via the Portico into Beauty has a ramp. Entry via the Parkway into Haberdashery is step free but into Sports has steps. The main entrances, closer to our car park, are via Menswear & Kitchenware. Both of these entrances have mini lifts to bring you to the shop floor level. There are four shopping levels on the ground floor, all are accessible to wheelchair users via the mini lifts. There is a mini lift up to the restaurant on the 1st floor. There is a ramp connecting the Childrenswear and Nursery. The central lift covers all three floors.
Toilets
The accessible toilets are on the 1st floor near the Place to Eat restaurant.
