Overview

We stayed with friends at this Best Western hotel. It is an older building that has had some bedrooms made accessible. These rooms are accessed from outside. Our room was the furthest from reception which meant we got soaked getting to breakfast. We were told to ask for room 214 if we were going back as its closest to the reception. The bedroom is quite spacious but we couldn't get a wheelchair down either side of the bed so my husband had to move the bed. There were no alarm buttons in the bedroom or bathroom. The bathroom is great with grab rails and roll in shower with shower chair. Only complaint is if you're in a wheelchair you cannot see in the mirror! The restaurant is spacious . There's 2 levels one down a few steps but plenty of room on the main level. Staff were very helpful moving chairs for me. The restaurant has a lovely view of the river but unfortunately we could hardly see anything because of the rain! Theres 3 disabled parking spaces near reception and a couple at the courtyard outside the disabled rooms.

Transport & Parking

We went by car so unable to comment on public transport. 3 disabled spaces near reception then another couple outside the disabled rooms.

Access

Theres a small step up to the pavement at reception . The bedroom area has a lot of steps so to get to the accessible rooms you have to go round the outside of the building. We got absolutely soaked when going to breakfast as our room was the furthest away. If you are going ask for room 214 which is the nearest to reception.

Toilets

Great bathroom in the room with grab rails and excellent wheel in shower with shower chair. Took half a star off as no red cord and the mirror is too high for someone in a wheelchair

Staff

Staff in the restaurant were fantastic as was the member of staff when we were checking out. Member of staff on reception when we were checking in wasnt very helpful and just shrugged her shoulders when we queried having to go outside to the room

Anything else you wish to tell us?

We would definitely go back as the pros outweighed the cons. Will ask for room 214.
