Port Of Menteith , Inchmahome, FK8 3RA, United Kingdom | 01877 385 294 | Website

Venue Description

Take a scenic boat trip across Scotland's only lake to this peaceful, wooded island sanctuary with a medieval priory at its heart. Founded around 1238, the priory was home to Augustinian canons for more than 300 years. It was visited by Robert the Bruce, and Mary Queen of Scots. The island is perfect for a short walk or a waterside picnic. It is a haven for wildlife. Look for the Spanish chestnuts and the boxwood bower supposedly planted by Mary. Opening Times: 29 Mar – 30 Sept 10am to 4.30pm 1 Oct – 31 Oct 10am to 3pm 1 Nov - 28 Mar closed

Accessibility

Approach to site A small motor boat ferries visitors to the island. There is a small wooden threshold into the boat shed and a jetty surfaced with uneven stone paving. Visitors must be able to climb into and out of a boat. Visitor centre The visitor centre is accessed by an uneven stone jetty and up two shallow steps. Monument Whilst the priory itself is relatively level, the main routes around the island are not surfaced, and are rough and uneven, with tree roots and large stones. The routes around the Priory are grass and gravel, and are firmer during periods of dry weather. There is a large open area around the priory that gives good views of the buildings. There is a small threshold into the nave, and larger ones (100mm) into the cloister.
