Venue Description

The Hermitage of Braid & Blackford Hill is a Local Nature Reserve on the south side of Edinburgh, managed by the City of Edinburgh Council and supported by a Friends group. It is well used by families, runners, dog walkers and others, and it is a great place to enjoy countryside in the city. There is an independently run and very popular outdoor cafe at the Braid Road entrance. There are a number of wheelchair accessible picnic tables in the Reserve, one near the Observatory car park and the others between the Braid Road entrance and Hermitage House.

Accessibility

There are level tarmac or grit paths inside the Reserve from the Braid Road, Cluny Gardens, Blackford Glen Road and Observatory car park entrances.

There is one public toilet for men and one for women, with a concrete ramp outside and grab rails inside. They are located at the Stables near Hermitage House about a quarter of a mile from the Braid Road entrance, along the main tarmac drive.
