Venue Description
Hell Wath is an area of open, managed countryside on the outskirts of Ripon. Half the site is a designated local nature reserve. The remainder includes to garss meadow areas and playfields used by Ripon City Panthers Football Club. The site also includes a clubhouse building and also host a coffee van, Tuesday to Friday. At weekends the football club offers sausage and bacons sandwiches when the club is playing or training. There are extensive paths and routes around the site. Some are accessible by all wheelchairs and others are accessible to more robust all-terrain chairs. There are a number of log benches places around the site for those who need to have a rest or wish to stop and enjoy the view. The site is well used by dog walkers but has no cycle routes.
Accessibility
There is flat access from Hell Wath Grove, Hell Wath Lane (opposite Hell Wath Cottage) and from Whitcliffe Lane. Most of the routes around the site are step free although have natural surfaces that can be challenging to some mobility equipment, especially in winter. Access from Borrage Farm Lane is currently blocked due to footpath erosion. Normally there would be wheelchair access to the river here but most wheelchairs could not use this route to get to the rest of the site. There are steps up with a bar to hold onto called the Giant Steps. There are steps between some levels The first section of the path off Hell Wath lane has been recently resurfaced and has a secure crushed stone surface and a route to the rest of the nature reserve that avoids most of the more challenging inclines.

Toilets
The accessible toilet is only available when the club house is open. Normally this will be between 8am and 2pm, Tuesdays to Fridays and mornings of Saturdays and Sundays.

There are no venue staff but if you email Friends of Hell Wath before a visit it k may be possible to offer a volunteer to show someone around.
