Venue Description

Glasgow Science Centre is an award-winning visitor attraction that presents science and technology in unique and inspiring ways. It has lots of activities to keep visitors of all ages entertained for hours. There are two acres of interactive exhibits, workshops, shows and activities. The venue houses 3 floors of themed galleries, a state-of-the-art planetarium, science show theatre and Newton Flight Academy. Alongside the Science Mall is the IMAX Theatre, housing Scotland’s largest cinema screen. Also on-site is the 417ft-high Glasgow Tower, the tallest freestanding structure in Scotland.

Accessibility

The main entrances and exit to Glasgow Science Centre are wheel chair accessible. All lifts within the Science Mall can accommodate 1 wheelchair (up to Class 2) and 1 carer. IMAX - located in the foyer and giving access to the rear of the auditorium (door opening 100 cm, depth 130 cm); Science Mall – very large, multi-person lift near the ticket desk and a smaller lift (door opening 80 cm, depth 150 cm) between the escalators and entrance to Tower.

Accessible Performances

In the seated theatre spaces within Glasgow Science Centre, there are spaces allocated for wheelchair users as follows: The IMAX has 4 wheelchair spaces The Science Show Theatre has 6 wheelchair spaces The Planetarium has 6 wheelchair spaces Induction Loops are available in the IMAX Theatre, Ticket Desk and Science Show Theatre. Please switch Hearing Aids to the ‘T’ position to use this facility. 10 individual hearing loops are available on request for visitors in the Planetarium. Glasgow Science Centre also operates autism friendly hours (this link opens in a new window).

Awards List

We are proud to be awarded the Disability Confident Small Business Award 2023 and to be recognized as a Star Performer at the Herald and GenAnalytics Diversity Awards 2022. In 2023 we were the national winners of the Scottish Thistle Award for Inclusive Tourism and in 2024 received the regional Scottish Tourism Award for 'Best Visitor Attraction' and 'Climate Action'. We were the first visitor attraction in Scotland and first Science Centre in the UK be awarded the Green Key eco-certificate and have just recently (Sept '24) been awarded the Wellness Charter from Hospitality Health - the Scottish charity dedicated to improving health and wellbeing in the hospitality & tourism industry. Glasgow Science Centre has previously received a Bronze Standard Award from Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion (ENEI) through the TIDE (Talent Inclusion & Diversity Evaluation) benchmarking scheme.

Toilets

We have improved accessibility for all our visitors and enhanced the overall experience at Glasgow Science Centre. Fully accessible toilets are available within all areas and we also have Gender Neutral toilets: Science Galleries - Ground Floor (Baby changing available), Floor 2 (Baby changing available) and Floor 3. IMAX - Ground Floor (Baby Changing in both Male and Female toilets). A Changing Places toilet - Ground Floor (Please ask a member of staff for the code to enter). A Family Room with toilet - Ground Floor. We are improving accessibility for all our visitors and enhancing the overall experience at Glasgow Science Centre.

Staff

We have a highly trained team available to assist you. All of our staff are trained in delivering high levels of service and we have many members of staff trained in Disability, Autism, Diversity and Inclusion Awareness, Disability Equality Training, First Aid Training and Mental Health First Aid Training.

Assistance dog exercise facilities

We welcome assistance dogs to Glasgow Science Centre. We are happy to provide fresh drinking water and 'poo' bags on request for assistance dogs. The area surrounding the Glasgow Science Centre is also suitable for exercising your dog.
