Venue Description

Glasgow Museums Resource Centre (GMRC) houses a vast collection of objects from around the world. Glasgow Museums can only display a tiny fraction of our collection at any one time in one of our nine museums across the city – the rest is stored at GMRC, our publicly accessible museum store. You name it, we’ve got it: paintings, pots, swords, ship models, vintage cars, clocks, kayaks – the list goes on! We have 17 purpose-built and environmentally controlled rooms known as pods set over 15,000 sqm2 which houses around 800,000 objects. Accessibility

There is one entrance to GMRC. There is a slight ramp through two sets of double automatic doors which is 1.7 meters wide The Reception Desk is 5 meters from the entrance to the Museum. The desk is 120cm high but has a lower section of 85cm in the middle. Wheelchairs are available, ask at Reception.

Toilets

GMRC has accessible toilets on each floor throughout the building. These toilets have alarm cords. Accessible toilet, Phase 1 at Reception. This toilet also includes baby changing facilities. There is turning space for a wheelchair. Door: 89cm wide Toilet: 40cm high Accessible toilet, Phase 2. There is turning space for a wheelchair. Door: 90cm wide Toilet: 45cm high

Staff

Disability awareness is embedded within our training programme for every employee. Some team members also receive additional training in specific disabilities, such as dementia awareness. Some staff have had basic sign language awareness training.
