Venue Description

Glasgow Central is a category A listed building that was built in 1879 and opened by the Caledonian Railway. Today, it serves around 29 million passengers a year, making it the 11th busiest station in Britain.

Accessibility

We have 4 entrances to access Glasgow Central, 3 of these entrances are fully wheelchair accessible. Our main entrance is located at Gordon Street, this is a wide entrance on a slight incline and is accessible to all. Our entrance at Hope Street is also a wide entrance on an incline and is accessible to all. Our Union Street entrance has steps and is not accessible for wheelchair users. We also have an entrance on Argyle Street which services Glasgow Central Low Level, this is a wide entrance, you can access Glasgow Central High Level from the lift located close to the Low Level Ticket Office. The lift is a standard lift with button operated doors and can be used by anyone. All of the gates to our entrances are fully open during station operating hours. Glasgow Central is built on an incline which increases from the main entrance to the platforms.

Toilets

We have 3 accessible toilets at Glasgow Central Station. Toilet A is located near to the main entrance at Gordon Street, next to WH Smith. This toilet also has baby changing facilities. Toilet B is located near the middle of the station next to Costa Coffee. Both of these toilets can be accessed by using a call point or by Radar key. We also have a Changing Places toilet located next to Toilet B. This facility has a shower room, changing table and a winch and is accessed by using the call point, staff will bring the key to give you access. All of our toilets have manual doors which you have to open and close.

Staff

All Network Rail station staff are trained in providing mobility assistance. We have electric buggies which can take up to 3 passengers and luggage. We are able to provide ramp assistance on any train service. We have several staff members trained as Level 1 Guide Communicators.

Being located in the city centre there are no green areas for assistance dogs close to the station.

Other assistance dog facilities

We provide drinking bowls of water for assistance dogs, located at the Avanti Travel Centre next to the main entrance at Gordon Street and at the main Mobility Point in the centre of the concourse.
