Venue Description

Kirroughtree is the biggest visitor centre in Galloway Forest Park, with a café and outdoor and bike hire shop, as well as an exhibition, trails and play area. There's a fully accessible wildlife viewing hide only a short distance along an all-ability trail from the visitor centre, giving everyone the chance to watch squirrels, birds and other local wildlife at really close quarters!

Accessibility

We have ample car parking and step-free access into and around the visitor centre. There's a Changing Places toilet within the visitor centre and an additional accessible toilet at the Bike and Outdoor shop end of the building. There is an automatic door into the centre. The wildlife hide is situated along an all-ability trail, which is signed from the visitor centre. To ensure the best possible viewing experience for visitors, there are 2 wheelchair/buggy viewing spaces either side of the bench, with suitable height viewing slots. We keep feeders stocked, in the wooded area in front of the hide, so there are usually birds, squirrels and other creatures to be seen.

We have 4 stars from VisitScotland and a silver Green Tourism award.

Toilets

We have one Changing Places toilet within the visitor centre, plus an additional accessible toilet at the Bike shop end of the building.

Staff

Some staff have undergone World Host training. Some staff have also done diversity awareness training. Most staff onsite are in the café and shop, with Forestry and Land Scotland staff around the site when possible.
