Venue Description
Furzton Lake boasts scenic open views, making it a popular choice for joggers, cyclists and walkers. It was created as a basin for floodwaters during rainy spells and has matured into a well-loved park for local residents and wildlife to enjoy. The park benefits from an Italian café/restaurant, a pub and recreational activities, which can enhance a visit. It is possible to travel the whole way around the lake on surfaced footpaths. The park is managed by The Parks Trust, a self-financing charity that cares for 6000 acres of woodlands, lakes and greenspaces in Milton Keynes.
Accessibility
Furzton Lake has several entrances, some of which are accompanied by car parks. The main entrances are at Shirwell Crescent, V4 Watling Street and Lynmouth Crescent. The park is signposted from the H7 and V4 grid roads. The path benefits from surfaced footpaths which encircle the lake, however there is a slight crossfall on these paths, sloping towards the lake. Some paths, such as those leading away from the lake into the surrounding estates, have steeper gradients. There are some steeper gradients at the northeast of the lake, by The Italian Sul Lago, where footpaths cross the water management system. There are two boardwalk bridges to the west and the east of the park. Throughout the park you can regularly find benches, but these are not always accompanied by hardstanding. There are steps at the north end of the lake, which are not accompanied by a handrail. These can be avoided during a circular loop. Refreshments are served from The Italian Sul Lago and Furzton Lake Hungry Horse. Next to The Italian Sul Lago, you can find Dinosaur Valley adventure golf course, which is wheelchair accessible. Fishing is managed by Milton Keynes Angling Association and takes place on unguarded platforms around the lake. At the main entrances you can find large park maps. The circular walking route is shown on the map and reiterated with finger posts around the lake. Walking routes can be downloaded from The Parks Trust website (www.theparkstrust.com/furzton-lake), although these are not signposted in the park.
