Venue Description

Forth Valley Sensory Centre has been supporting people in Forth Valley with sensory impairment and their families for over 10 years. The Centre offers support, advice, practical help and social opportunities. It was the first building of its type in the UK and has been specifically designed with the needs of sensory impaired people in mind. The Centre has a fully accessible Café serving Fairtrade coffee and homemade food. We also have a Sensory Garden providing a safe outside space. We also have a Sensory Room and put on a number of groups and activities for sensory impaired people. The overall objective of Forth Valley Sensory Centre, is to help people who have a sensory impairment live as independently as possible. The Forth Valley Sensory Centre Trust is a registered charity (SC034267).

Accessibility

The Centre is all on one level and has textured flooring at junctions to assist visually impaired people and handrails throughout. The entrance has visible lines and rails leading up to automatic doors and there is textured paving from the car park area too.

Accessible Performances

We offer computer classes in our IT room which are BSL signed. We also run a number of other clubs, activities and events where an interpreter (BSL) may be present.

Toilets

There is a fully accessible toilet and baby change facility with grab rails and red emergency cords.

Staff

Around a third of our staff have a sensory impairment. Several have BSL skills and all undergo sensory impairment training, such as sighted guiding in order to properly assist our visitors.
