Venue Description
Ferry Meadows is the ideal place for a family day out and one of the largest country parks in the region. Situated less than three miles from Peterborough city centre, at the heart of Nene Park, its varied landscapes make it the favourite destination for thousands of visitors throughout the year. Whether you’re looking to walk, cycle, try some watersports, enjoy a cup of tea in one of the cafés, go fishing or just explore the meadows, lakes and woodland, there's something for everyone at Ferry Meadows. With the paths around the main areas of the Park being hard surfaced and a minimum width of two metres, this is a suitable area for wheelchair users. All buildings are wheelchair accessible and there are accessible toilets, a Changing Places toilet and an accessible changing room as part of the Watersports and Activity Centre.Accessibility
Entrance to the Visitor Centre building is via a short ramp to automatic sliding doors at the front or a small slope through a push button operated door from the Ferry Meadows Café side. A hearing loop is available at the till, as shown by the T and ear symbol sign. Our friendly staff are always happy to help. Mobility scooters are welcome on all surfaced paths throughout the Park. Ferry Meadows Visitor Centre currently has two mobility scooters and two Mountain Trikes to help visitors with access needs explore the park. For full details on how to borrow a mobility scooter or Mountain Trike, please contact the Visitor Centre on 01733 234193 or visitor.services@neneparktrust.org.uk. These are free to borrow but we do ask for a donation. There are plenty of benches throughout the Park. We have accessible toilets at the Park and also have a Changing Places toilet and additional accessible changing room at our Watersports and Activity Centre. We have a varied events programme throughout the year - please go to www.nenepark.org.uk/events to see what is coming up soon. We will always try and accommodate all abilities at our events. For events that you need to book and pay for, you are welcome to bring a carer for free. We have a thriving disability sailing programme - Sailability. Do get in touch if you would like to find out more about that. Our passenger boat, which offers boat trips on the lakes, is wheelchair accessible.
