Experience Barnsley visitors can uncover the incredible story of Barnsley, told through centuries-old artefacts, documents, films and recordings that have been donated by people living and working in the Borough. It is a museum by the people, for the people and about the people. The museum has a changing programme of temporary exhibitions relating to Barnsley’s past and present, and an exciting range of activities and events throughout the year including weekly under five’s sessions, family holiday activities, school workshops, sessions for community groups, talks and more – all delivered by our team of passionate staff and volunteers. There is a shop at Experience Barnsley selling a range of items and a cafe, The Old George Town Hall, onsite as well.Accessibility
We have level access throughout the museum and wheelchairs available to borrow for the duration of your visit. There is seating throughout the museum and there is portable seating provided. We have a portable hearing loop available on request We have visual stories, a 360 tour, audio descriptions of selected objects, Makaton videos and a Visit England access guide available on our website. All videos onsite have subtitles We have relaxed openings once a month, advertised on our website - please check here for dates We have a dedicated accessibility tab on our website which includes additional information for disabled visitors and those with access needs We have access backpacks available for visitors including ear defenders and fidget toys.

Toilets
There is a Changing Places on the ground floor of the town hall, where Experience Barnsley is situated The Changing places is through the second set of doors after the entrance and to the right, past the lift. It is then on your left past the male and female toilets. There is a Baby Change round the corner from this.
