This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Long Cane, Wheelchair, Mobility Scooter
Overview
I couldn't have done it on my own, but with willing helpers it's doable and lots of fun. Hardly anywhere that I couldn't get close enough to see the animals. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Transport & Parking
I got a taxi to drop me off on Corstorphine Road and from there there's an accessible path up to the entrance.
Access
We got a lift from a very nice man in the 'mobility vehicle' (a people carrier - my scooter stowed in the back) right up to the top where the wild cats are. The paths at the top area of the zoo are really steep and skiddy - my sister in law had to walk down backwards in front of me acting as an extra brake! - but as you come down lower the paths become wood/paved and much less terrifying. Some of the tarmac on the paths towards the bottom is a bit uneven and there are some steep sideways angles (I always worry about tipping over on my three wheeler).
Toilets
The one beside the entrance was huge. Unfortunately so was the queue!
Staff
Couldn't have been nicer, despite being a bit overwhelmed by the sudden 22 degree sunny day resulting in massive crowds that day, which I don't think they were expecting!
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The price list suggested that a disabled person gets a couple of quid discount. However, it turned out that an accompanying adult 'carer' gets in free! The website says that 'proof of entitlement' is required. I was all set to show them how I couldn't run a 100m sprint, but I think the scooter was enough evidence and nothing further was requested! We had a tremendous day. Well worth it for the price - we were there for about five hours.
