Venue Description

Located in the community of Newhaven, Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop is a place where artists make and develop work. As well as specialist shared Workshops and workspaces, we have 26 studios and 10 Project Spaces which enable research, presentation and learning, and a well-established learning programme for groups and courses for adults. Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop offers new exhibitions each year as part of the Edinburgh Art Festival.

Accessibility

Level access over the whole site. Lift to all floors in the Bill Scott Sculpture Centre. Creative Laboratories is laid out over a single storey with level access / ramps throughout Three disabled toilets Level access to ESW's Creative Laboratories and Cafe MILK via the cycle path or path from Hawthornvale.

Accessible Performances

Four Descriptive Touch Tour events are offered, specifically designed for people who are blind or partially signed. The descriptions and items to hold relate to Ashanti Harris's exhibition and performance: 'Dancing a Peripheral Quadrille', As well as the descriptive element of the tours, there will be the chance to handle some of the installed pieces and and one of the sculptures, and also to play one of the modified oil drums. On 30 July, the Descriptive Touch Tour starting at 1230 is timed to also enjoy the full performance in the courtyard. For the other Descriptive Touch Tours, the audio from the performance is part of a longer audio in the tower and a visit to hear this forms part of these tours. Toilets

There are three disabled toilets, all with step-free access. One disabled toilet is in the Bill Scott Sculpture Centre, with street level access. One disabled toilet is in the Creative Laboratories beside cafe MILK. (The third disabled toilet in in the Creative Laboratories, and available when the North Labs space is open) Doors are wide enough for manual and powered wheelchairs. All disabled toilets have easy turn locks, grab rails and taps.

Staff

Most staff are qualified first aiders. Two staff members have attended workshop(s) around acquired brain injury.

The Hawthornvale Cycle Path borders the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop site. Victoria Park on Newhaven Road is a 5 minute walk from Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop.
