Venue Description

Dundee Contemporary Arts is an internationally renowned centre for contemporary arts that enables audiences, artists and participants to see, experience and create through our four programme areas: exhibitions, cinema, print and learning. We present a programme of contemporary visual art and culture. Established as a charity in 1996, our building opened to the public in 1999 and forms a social and cultural hub for the city of Dundee. Supported by Dundee City Council and Creative Scotland, our building contains galleries for the presentation of contemporary art, cinemas, a print studio and a variety of education spaces.

There are two designated disabled parking spaces in the car park at the back of the building where you can find level access to DCA lift. Our lift has voice announcement and tactile buttons. Our lift provides access to all public areas of the building. Once inside the building our reception/box office desk is at a suitable height for wheelchair users and guide dogs and assistance dogs are welcome. We have used contrasting colours throughout the building to assist those with visual impairment. We have one accessible unisex toilet, close to the galleries on the ground floor, with an emergency pull cord and one accessible unisex toilet, close to the cinema entrance on the lower ground floor, with emergency pull cord. In our cinemas we offer captioned screenings and audio description on selected films. We also offer Relaxed screenings on selected films, which are screened in our smaller cinema, without advertising and with consistent lighting and lower sound levels throughout. The cinemas are fully ramped with wheelchair areas and removable seats. Wheelchairs are also available on request (please let us know your requirements in advance). A large print version of our weekly cinema guide is available from Box Office, and an audio described version of our Cinema Brochure is available on Soundcloud (https://soundcloud.com/dcadundee). Our galleries are accessible by lift from the back entrance and there is level access to our galleries from the front entrance. Folding stools are available to take into the galleries. Printed exhibition notes are provided in large print at the entrance to each gallery – a large print version of the exhibition notes is available from Box Office. You can also find an audio version of the Exhibition Notes, and audio descriptions of some features of the exhibitions, on DCA’s Bloomberg App and Soundcloud. The Print Studio and Jute Café Bar are accessible by lift from either the front or back entrance or via a flight of stairs, with handrail. Our Print Studio is laid out with wide access routes to facilitate wheelchair manoeuvrability and ease of use by people with mobility impairment and also has accessible toilet facilities.
