Overview
I did a tour and tasting, also the visitors centre and loos. The distillery was built in 1898 and it's essentially a working factory in an old building. The access is necessarily limited. But the staff make up for it.
Transport & Parking
Walking distance from the station. Bits of the pavement are narrow, sloped and gravelly. Could do with a dropped kerb at the distillery gates. There are two good- looking disabled parking spaces
Access
The signage is clear. There's a slight step into the visitor's centre (less than 1"). The tour isn't very accessible. The mashing and fermenting room is nearly entirely inaccessible up stairs, one can see a bit from the bottom. There's one step into downstairs in the stills house; from there one can't see much of the stills or the spirit safe. But the staff more than make up for it with enthusiastic and helpful description. The tasting room, the bar, shop, and toilets are all pretty accessible.
Toilets
It's pretty clear and pretty spacious, room for a carer, clean and tidy. There is an alarm. Door sticks. No Changing Places toilet
Staff
Met a number of different staff. All were very pleasant and helpful. A couple were a bit pfaffy over-solicitous, frankly, but far rather that than unhelpful or huffy any day! The guide was exceptional, very interesting, responsive and helpful. Highly recommended.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Would definitely visit again, if I happen to be in the area - but it's pretty remote!!!
