Dalwhinnie Distillery Visitor Centre
Dalwhinnie, Dalwhinnie, PH19 1AA, United Kingdom | 01540672219 | WebsiteVenue Description
Dalwhinnie is the highest working distillery in Scotland, sitting high up in the mountains of the Cairngorms at 1164ft above sea level. Dalwhinnie is also the coldest inhabited area in the UK with the weather station at the distillery recording an average temperature of 6 degrees C, so if you’re out for a hike or just exploring the Cairngorms, it’s a great place to pop in and warm up with a dram of our single malt whisky. Established in 1898 our signature whisky is the Dalwhinnie 15 year old which is creamy, smooth and has a heather honey taste which is very easy to drink – many people have told us that it’s the dram that started them on their whisky journey. We do tours and tastings all throughout the year, open 7 days a week and only closed for a couple of days around Christmas and New Year. We take you on a guided tour through the distillery and into our traditional warehouse where you can see the whisky maturing, then you get a couple of samples at the end and if you want more we have a cosy tasting area where you can choose from our other 4 Dalwhinnie whiskies (or have all of them!) and each whisky is specially paired with a handmade luxury chocolate truffle from the Highland Chocolatier.Accessibility
Our visitor centre is at ground level so is fully accessible by wheelchair, our tasting area and shop is also fully accessible and we have a disabled toilet. There is a small step about an inch high at the entrance but previous visitors in wheelchairs have had no issues with this. Unfortunately our distillery is not completely wheelchair accessible as there are stairs and due to the age of the building we cannot make any changes to it so a complete tour is not possible. It is possible however to visit our warehouse and tasting room so we try and be as accommodating as possible and our guides are happy to answer any questions you may have about the process. There is also a video in the visitor centre which shows inside the distillery and the production of our whisky. Our bar and tasting area is within the visitor centre so you can enjoy a few drams paired with chocolates.
