Crownhill Fort (The Landmark Trust)
Crownhill Fort Road, Plymouth, PL6 5BX, United Kingdom | 01752793754 | WebsiteVenue Description
Crownhill Fort is amongst the best preserved of the UK's Victorian defences. It is owned and managed by the Landmark Trust, a charitable organisation that rescues and restores historic buildings. There is holiday accommodation within the former Officers Quarters and many of the former military buildings are let to a community of small businesses. The Fort has a small visitor operation that hosts monthly public open days and pre-booked visits for schools, groups and societies. There are occasional special events during the year including bat walks, gun firing and dining.
Accessibility
There is level access from the site entrance to the holiday accommodation, Parade Ground, museum displays and the majority of the commercial premises. Access to the ramparts is via a grassy slope with a gradient of 7%. Most doors on the site are around 1 metre wide but do not have power assistance. There is a strong visual contrast between walls, floors and doors for partially sighted visitors.
Toilets
There is an accessible toilet on site with a door that is 1 metre wide. Grab rails are present around the toilet and dispensers are mounted at a lower level than elsewhere on site.
