Crossraguel Abbey
Crossraguel Abbey, Maybole, KA19 8HQ, United Kingdom | +44 (0) 1655 883113 | WebsiteVenue Description
The grounds are accessible. There is currently no visitor access to the abbey due to restrictions in place as a precautionary measure while we undertake high level masonry inspections. Climb the impressive gatehouse tower for a bird's eye view of one of the most complete medieval abbey complexes in Scotland. Now hauntingly beautiful, its substantial ruins guard some violent secrets. One abbot was roasted over a fire by a nobleman seeking to seize the abbey's land and revenues. 1 Apr to 30 Sept: Thurs-Sun, 9.30am to 5.30pm Last entry 5pm 1 Oct to 31 Mar: ClosedAccessibility
Visitor Centre The visitor centre is step free. Monument The main routes around the monument are surfaced in gravel or grass. The grass is very well maintained, but is naturally firmer during dry weather. There are numerous archaeological remains within the grass which can be difficult to see. There are threshold steps into some rooms, but these are not on main circulation routes. The gatehouse is up a stone spiral stair. This is an historic stair, with uneven steps. There is no fixed handrail and light levels can be very low.
