Brunch by the gardens

This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Powerchair

Overview

Not sure what to expect my visit the the Scottish Restaurant was great. Access for me as powerchair user wasn't obvious at first but soon became clear as you go in via the National Gallery where a large modern lift takes you down to the garden level. Going out I went through the automatic doors into the garden and a level path skirts the gardens to lead to Waverlet Bridge; not hills or steps which was great. You could come in this way if you didn't want to go in via the gallery and lift.

Transport & Parking

4

Buses run along nearby Princes Street. If coming by car there is some dedicated accessible parking on the Mound by the galleries. Alternatively; you can come on the tram or train which are both handy although it is a good five minute walk away.

Access

5

Access was very good once you know that you can walk in on the level access path from Waverley Bridge or go in via the galleries and take the lift. Once in the galleries you go to the lower level where there is a shop, loos (including two accessible ones) the cafe and of the restaurant where I visited. Staff were quick to offer me a table by the window so I could look out on to the gardens. The chair was quietly whisked away to allow space for me to pull up to the table. It's table service which was great.

Toilets

4.5

The restaurant has is own dedicated accessible loo which was great. Large, spacious and clean.

Staff

Staff were very welcoming and helpful. They offered me a seat with a view by the panoramic window. Space was quickly and quietly made for me to approach the table and get comfortable with my powerchair.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

It was a pleasant experience with great food and a lovely setting to sit and admire the views. Will certainly revisit!
