Venue Description

1 Trinity Street, Cambridge is one of the most historic sites in bookselling. Books have been sold here since at least 1581, making it the oldest bookshop site in the country. We are proud to showcase almost the entire range of publishing from Cambridge University Press and offer a calm, friendly atmosphere in which to browse.

Accessibility

There are two entrances into the bookshop; one on Market Hill has three steps but the main entrance on Trinity Street is at street level and has a double doorway. If one door is open the access with is approximately 70cm and staff will open the second door on request. The shop has three trading floors - the ground floor is all at street level and is fully accessible; the Market Hill wing (containing Education and English Language Teaching books) of the shop is accessible via a ramp from the Trinity Street entrance; the first floor is accessible via a spiral staircase and a small goods lift that also functions as a passenger lift. The internal dimensions of the lift are 85cm wide by 100cm deep and there is a manual exterior door to the lift that opens outwards. As part of the first floor there is a mezzanine area that is only accessible by a few steps. Unfortunately we have been advised that is not possible to install a ramp to this area to make it more accessible. If customers wish to see any books from this area and are not able to climb the stairs, all staff will be happy to bring books to a table in the lower area.
